Happy Rebellion Day!

A funny thing to celebrate your country's independence in the very country they gained their independence from! I don't think too many people care too much about it any more but the irony still remains. We were proud to be Americans today and can't wait to return home!

Here was the formal invitation to the BBQ that Kody sent out. I found it comical the time he took to think of such a detailed invitation - he's a philosopher and studies government, so put that together and you get this...

When, in the Course of studying the Summa at Cambridge, it becomes necessary for the students to recall and reassert the dissolution of the political bands which used to bind them to this country--a celebration by fire and hotdog to which the Laws of Nature and Nature's God entitle them--a decent respect for all those invited requires that they should declare what the plan is.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all should first go to Mass Sunday morning before reporting to Wolfson College grill from 12-330, that all men are created equal in their capacities to bring their own meat and alcohol, that their plates shall be endowed by various Creators with unalienable Side Dishes, Breidenbach sponge cake, Stuart potato salad, and Cooper fruit salad--and others are encouraged to contribute. That to secure the proper Eating of the foregoing, paper plates, plastic cups, and utensils are instituted among Men, and will derive their presence at Wolfson from the Stukeley house. That whenever so much fun become destructive of babies' and toddlers' energy, they can take naps at the Close, and that it is the Right of the celebrating people after their glorious consumption to play bocce ball, or go swimming at the pool, or perhaps even hoist Old Glory up the Wolfson flag pole. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that you bring towels and bathing suits, and that the honorary American bring his flag, which we would never expect him to bring if this were a light and transient cause.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection Divine Providence from heartburn, we mutually pledge to each other our Brats, our Burgers, and our Sacred Beer.

We had a wonderful afternoon and later after we left we found out the American Flag was indeed flown on British soil...if only for a few minutes and time enough for our friends to recite the Pledge of Allegiance! At least some people still know how to be patriotic!
